Rules:

To be eligible to visit an SCI Somerset inmate, an individual must be on the inmate’s approved visiting list. No more than five people may visit an inmate at any given time. Some discretion is used here on the part of the Visiting Room personnel regarding younger children. However, to ensure that no disappointment occurs, it would be wise to limit your group to five, including children.

All general population SCI Somerset inmates will be permitted one visit per week. A week is defined as running from Monday through Sunday. If a visit is not used one week, it may not be carried over to the next. Each visit will be for a minimum time period of one hour, providing that the visitor arrives no later than 2:30 p.m. However, if space permits, the visit may extend indefinitely until closing or until space is needed for additional visits. Visits will be terminated on a first-in/first-out basis in such cases.

In addition, all SCI Somerset inmates will be permitted one extra visit per calendar month, which can be used any day of the week except on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and which follows the same basic rules noted above and below.

It should be noted that visits cannot be split up. For instance, a visitor cannot come on Sunday for one-half hour and then return on Monday for another half-hour. Similarly, if an inmate or visitor terminates a visit for lunch, the visit may not be continued after lunch.

Hot and cold drinks, candy and snacks are available for purchase in the Visiting Room. You may purchase these for the inmate and eat lunch with him rather than terminate the visit. No other exchanges are permitted and can be considered attempts to introduce contraband into the institution. No food or beverage may be taken from the Visiting Room.

Visiting in the yard adjacent to the Visiting Room is permitted at the Visiting Room officer’s discretion, contingent upon personnel availability and weather conditions.

Visits for inmates in restricted housing or who are on visiting restrictions will be non-contact and will be conducted on Monday through Friday with immediate family only.
